Rodez BREAKS

If you are looking for a French destination that will offer you something more than just a tranquil sojourn, Rodez is the place for you.  This very classy and somehow no-nonsense place gives you a classic fusion of the past and the present.

Since the 4th century, Rodez is a canonical city in the southern France. It features a majestic 80m tall northern cathedral.  The architectural design is dominantly Gothic.  It has a thoroughly closed western wall.  Apparently, the early French soldiers used this as a defense wall of the city. Rodez is practically an agricultural center for trade and commerce.

Some of the must see historical places of Rodez are the Notre Dame de Rodez (dating back to around 13th – 15th centuries), the antiquated houses and mansions (14th-17th centuries), the chapel of the old Jesuit College (dating back to around 17th century) and the Bishop’s Palace (also goes back to the 17th century).

You will be amazed at the impressive late Gothic style of the Notre Dame de Rodez.  You will be wowed by its intricate bell tower sculpture that is made of red sandstone.  This interesting fixture seems to be pointing to something or giving directions to somewhere.  In the evenings, the church structure is highlighted with 500 projector lamps that showcase the opulence—heritage-, design- and material-wise—of its architecture.

Located at the center of the Place de la Marie is the Fenaille Museum where the whole family can spend their quality time at the same time bonding moments since it has an activity hall. This museum has the largest collection of menhir statues in France, carved in more or less 5000 years ago, including the one shown in the major capitals of Europe, the Dame de Saint Sernin. It was Maurice Fenaille who donated the site for the museum which is the Jouéry mansion. He is the oil industry pioneer and a connoisseur of art. He was also a smart and sharp collector who patronized Rodin and the famous museums like the Louvre.

This museum of archeology and also a museum for the history of Rouergue now bear his name. The exceptional and breathtaking Fenaille Museum will bring you 300,000 years back to the 17th century. It exhibits an array of interactive multimedia terminals that are very much both entertaining and informative. The exquisite architecture of the museum will wrap you with its warmth and enchantment.  The style gives you a glimpse at the glorious age of France evident in the designs and the overall look and feel of the museum.  The place offers a perfect blend of the modern and the ancient time.  It is like the advanced modern exhibit spaces and the halls of the Jouéry mansion and courtyard.  These edifices were was constructed during the Renaissance period, is truly the museum’s heart

Just a stone throw away from the Fenaille Museum is the Deny Puech. It is a fine arts museum named after the great sculptor and the Grand Prix de Rome winner in 1884.  The museum plays host to his artworks.  His works emanates his love for things that are reminiscent of the good old days.  It has been the rendezvous for modern and present day creations since 1989.

Right in the very heart of the Rodez City lies a reputable charthouse of the 16th and 17th century. The place is called the Haras National Stud Farm, rounding up to roughly six hectares all in all.  One of the 50 Haras boarders with 10 different races is the standard Arab thoroughbred called Dormane.  This breed is the famous chief of race in the world.

There are lots of splendid sceneries that are yet to be seen in Rodez.  There is so much to explore and experience.  Truly a vacation in the city of Rodez will be a remarkable journey from the hustle and bustle of the city life to a heartwarming legacy from the past.  It is just a phone call away.  Book the next flight out to Rodez and you will never regret it.
