DINARD BREAKS

Dinard was a renowned spot with the British in Edwardian times while parking itself atop a rock-strewn cliff above the Rance opposite St. Malo. The refreshing sea air and a leisurely walk along the esplanade still invites people to drop by and spend a minute or two. The Victorian buildings are located just along the seafront, which gives the impression that the town still keeps hold of its graceful and demure old world character.

According to stories, shipping merchants from St. Malo were the early inhabitants of Dinard. They were also the ones who made beautiful villas on the overhang tops of Dinard. During the later part of 1800s, aristocrats from Britain and United States started to make beautiful villas and hotels in Dinard. Since then the town was turned into one of the most frequented summer destinations. As quoted, people identified the town as the “French Brighton.”

Dinard takes pleasure in a warm climate, which means a couple of degrees hotter than the adjacent areas since it lies on the Gulf Stream. The Promenade de Clare de la Lune is one of the favorite attractions in the Yacht Club area. It plays beautiful music as lovers and honeymooners take evening strolls along the shoreline. There are also tropical plants and palm trees that are gracing the area’s walkways.

There’s not much nightlife that Dinard can show off, but its streets are filled with a number of fine restaurants and bars. However, the main attractions that draw in visitors on holidays especially during summer are the wide array of beaches matched with a constantly sunny weather. These seaside attractions include a restaurant with a casino fronting the sea and a hall that can host many shows and exhibitions. A quite huge golf course and the Longchamp beach, which was popularly known as a “surfers’ spot,” are also featured in Saint-Lunaire, a town nearby.

The town’s first-rate beach is a bit of sand connecting the two peninsulas that identifies the limits of the old town La Grande Plage. This beach is well visited by quite a number of families, and this gets pretty crowded especially during summer days. Plage St. Enogat is the second largest in Dinard.

Situated at Rue du Chateau, the Musee Chateau commemorates Dinard’s local history and is a wonderful place to start on your vacation to the coastal town. Musee du Site Balneaire is another museum that details Dinard as a stretched standing coastal resort on the site. Dinard’s Marine Museum is another place worth stopping by for it traces the times gone by of Dinard’s coastal legacy.

A stroll on the Promenade du Claire de Lune gives some gratifying sights of the seaside and area. The Les Jardins Anglais, which is beautifully situated near the River Rance, has some stunning garden landscape worth the clicks of your brand-new digital camera. An array of river trips on how to go offshore and see Dinard and nearby St. Malo from an entirely diverse viewpoint is offered by Emeraude Lines.

Now, if you want to go on fine dining, Altaïr should be your first pick. They serve first-rate cuisine such as fresh salmon with herbs, pulverized crayfish and herbs, oysters with apple cream, sea scallops in puff pastry with coriander sauce, and caramelized apple soufflé. In this restaurant, most prices are practical, the portions are munificent, and the ambiance is warm. You can also dine on the terrace during warm weather.

Dinard has a municipal casino just like any other Brittany’s seaside towns. You can expect this casino to be most vivacious from Easter to late October. This is when almost all the facilities, which means even the rooms for roulette and blackjack, are never closed. On the other hand, after this peak season, only the slot machines remain operational.

Dinard doesn’t only offer the entertainment stuffs, because you can also find many educational institutions in the city. The town of Dinard has only few secondary schools, but it has numerous primary and elementary schools. The most known school in Dinard is the College Le Bocage, which is a public educational institution. After finishing grade school at College Le Bocage, most children go to Lycee, which is the French counterpart of American high schools. The reason for this is that Lycee is nearest and most accessible secondary school in the area.
